SPC WINTER TOURNAMENT

Oakridge advances to SPC Division I boys title game

Star-Telegram Staff Writers

The Oakridge boys basketball team used a 9-0 run that spanned nearly seven minutes of the third and fourth quarters to run away from Austin St. Stephen's, 38-26, Friday and advance to today's SPC Division I championship game.

Oakridge, which was led by Adam McCoy's 18 points in the semifinal, will play for the championship against Dallas St. Mark's at 1:30 p.m. today.

Oakridge beat Irving Cistercian 50-43 in its first game Friday.

In SPC Division II, All Saints and Country Day will meet at 9 a.m. today in the semifinals. The winner of that game will face either Oklahoma City Casady or Austin St. Andrew's in the championship game at 3 p.m.

Girls basketball

Ashley Gray scored 15 of her 30 points in the third quarter, leading the Country Day girls basketball team to a 57-38 SPC Division I victory over All Saints on Friday at Dallas Greenhill School.

Country Day will play Casady for the Division I state title at 1:30 p.m. today at Greenhill.

Boys soccer

Oakridge's bid to win its first Division I SPC tournament title fell short Friday when it lost to host Dallas Greenhill 1-0. But the Owls (19-2) will have a chance to finish in third place when they play Tulsa Holland Hall at 11 a.m. today at Greenhill.

It looked as if Oakridge goalie Damian Peralta made a good save as he slid out to the left corner of the goal to block Zach Brown's shot, but Neil Zimmerman took advantage of the busted play and put the ball just to Peralta's left in the first half for the game's only goal.

Girls soccer

Trinity Valley will not repeat as SPC Division I soccer champion after losing in the semifinals to Austin St. Stephen's 5-1 on Friday. Austin St. Stephen's will face Dallas Hockaday at 1 p.m. today in the finals, while Trinity Valley will play Dallas Greenhill for third place at 11 a.m.

SPC officials said if weather becomes a problem, information will be posted on the SPC Web site, http://www.spcsports.org/, by 6 a.m. today.
