With only five weeks before the SPC Fall Championships and only four before the SPC football playoffs begin, teams are fighting for tournament berths and seeding. Here are this weekend’s big match-ups.

Football

Episcopal at ESD, Friday, 6:00pm. The game’s start time has been moved up as inclement weather is forecast across many parts of Texas today, but the real thunder and lightning will be on the field. Both teams are 2-0 and zone play, so the winner will move into sole possession of first place in the south.

Houston Christian at Kinkaid, Friday, 7:00pm. Both teams are 1-1 in the south zone, so the winner has a chance to move into a tie for second place with the losing team of the Episcopal/ESD game. Kinkaid has a loss to Episcopal and therefore can’t move above the Knights; Houston Christian is similarly situated with ESD.

Girls’ Volleyball

Holland Hall at Greenhill, Friday. Both teams are undefeated in zone play, although the Dutch have a game in hand. The winner would move into a tie with also undefeated All Saints’.

St. Stephen’s at Houston Christian, Saturday. Tied at 1-1 in zone play, the winner will gain a huge advantage in a crowded south zone field.

Field Hockey

St. John’s at Saint Mary’s Hall, Saturday. Two undefeated teams face off with sole possession of second place in the south on the line.

Boys’ Volleyball

The standings in boys’ volleyball are tight from top to bottom in both zones, and every game this weekend has sizable ramifications for tournament seeding: Casady at Country Day, St. Mark’s at Greenhill, and Episcopal at Saint Mary’s Hall on Friday; St. John’s at Saint Mary’s Hall on Saturday.
